Pelly Crossing Hets’edän Kú’ Learning House Campus

The Pelly Crossing Campus was established in 1985. In 1996, the Pelly Crossing Elders gave the campus its Northern Tutchone name Het sedan Ku which translates to “Learning House”.  Over the years the campus has moved from the old Selkirk First Nation Administration building, to the community hall, a college trailer, and finally to a brand new campus in 2011. In August of that year the new 1.4 million facility was officially opened to meet the educational needs of the Pelly Crossing citizens and residents of the area. The new campus is situated next to the Eliza Van Bibber School.

The Pelly Campus offers a wide variety of programs designed to meet students’ needs in career preparation and in the labor market. Essential Skills programming includes Early Childhood Education, Academic Upgrading, and Workplace Essential skills i.e. Home Maintainer and Outdoor Power Equipment Programs. The Youth Employment Strategy Program (YES) provides students with job placements within the local business community. Under the Arts, Culture & Business Project, participants learn traditional skills as well as marketing strategies. Other seasonal and intermittent offerings include Master Gardener Course, Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO), First Aid, New Driver Training, ENFORM Chainsaw, Initial Attack Fire Fighting, Carpentry Apprenticeship, and extensive Mine training and Entry Level Oil and Gas courses. The Pelly Campus is indeed a busy place!
